Studies Find Opioid-Prescribing Physicians Motivated by Money

There has been much discussion about the Opioid crises that is hitting this great nation. There are deaths daily when it comes to this. People are dying everywhere and it is like no one seems to care.
Then you have these kids pushing gun control when the deaths from Opioid overdose is so much bigger, but you dont hear them talking about that. Guess they are not getting paid to talk about this one.

Recent studies conducted by Harvard University and CNN jointly have shown that opioid drug manufacturers are paying out big time to physicians who prescribe their products.  The more opioids a doctor prescribes, the more money he or she receives.  These doctors are also issued large stipends for speaking, consulting, and engaging in other services tied to prescribing addictive drugs.  Therefore, it appears physicians are being motivated by money.https://www.legalreader.com/studies-find-opioid-prescribing-physicians-motivated-money/

Now they are saying that the more a doctor prescribes the drugs the more money he or she can make. When you make something that is based on greed, this is not a winning combination.
The only one who loses is the public and the people who are getting hooked on the drugs. Very sad when a doctor loses his or her values and just looks to the monitary gain that is in front of them.

“This is the first time we’ve seen this, and it’s really important,” said Dr. Andrew Kolodny, a senior scientist at the Institute for Behavioral Health at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University, where he is co-director of the Opioid Policy Research Collaborative.  He said it appears that doctors are being motivated by the large payouts.  “It smells like doctors being bribed to sell narcotics, and that’s very disturbing.”

So now the medical profession is getting to be based on the greed of the doctor when it comes to patient care, not a good situation for the patient, that is for sure.

According to a statement by the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), drug companies support mandatory and ongoing training regarding pain for physicians.  “PhRMA supports a number of policies to ensure patients’ legitimate medical needs are met while establishing safeguards that prevent overprescribing,” the statement read.
However, many patients disagree that their needs and the needs of their loved ones are even a consideration to opioid-prescribing physicians making millions.  They feel as long as pharmaceutical companies are compensating providers willing to continue recommending addictive pain management strategies, physicians will continue to be far more motivated by their pocketbooks.

The patients today feel that their needs are not even really looked at when it comes to their pain. It is based on the amount of money that the provider is going to get for giving out these drugs.
If they don't get alot of money, then the patient may have to suffer thru the pain.

Conclusion
When the medical industry and a provider are getting money for doing their job or should i say not doing their job, we are in a very bad situation.  These big phrama companies should be help liable or to some standard when it comes to the use of Opioid prescriptions.

When they are going to pay doctors large amounts of money to prescribe their products, this is when the doctors don't do their jobs. They are getting hooked to the money and the greed that comes with it.
